Nominator's project description

Professor Victor Guarie is a leading theoretical physicist. He is internationally known for his early contributions to mathematical physics and for his ground breaking later work in cold atom physics. Trained as a many particle physicists, Professor Gurarie has made important contributions to the identification of exotic condensed matter phases in atomic condensates. His work has helped to anticipate and to realize phenomena whose observation in genuine solids may be out of reach within the paradigmatic context of cold atom physics. During his stay in Germany Professor Gurarie will continue to do research at the interface between cold atom and condensed matter physics. Specifically, it is planned to explore various manifestations of disorder in atomic condensates.
